Computerized tomography has now become the standard of care in the evaluation of urologic patients for stone and other urinary tract problems. We offer this in our Flowers office because it is convenient for our patients and also to assist us in the efficient diagnosis of urologic problems. Our new Siemens Emotion 16 Row CT Scanner is equipped with some of the latest technology to assist us in providing you with the best care possible.
Our CT scanner, as compared to ways used in the past to diagnose stones, is much more sensitive in that there are stones that do not show up on a regular xray but can be seen on a CT image. All scans that we do in the office are not only read by us, they are also read locally by a Board Certified Radiologist.
Our new Scanner is also capable of performing 3D imagery of the vessels surrounding the Urinary system, with a minimally invasive test called a CT Angiogram. This test requires little prep. Since only an IV and injection is needed for the test, no extended stay is needed after the exam; compared to the sedation and several hours of monitoring needed for a conventional Angiogram.
CT Angiograms can provide our physicians with vital information needed to assist in surgical planning to ensure that your surgical experience goes as smoothly as possible.
In addition to diagnosing urologic illnesses, the CT scanner covers many more areas of the abdomen and pelvis and allows for the diagnosis of incidental significant findings.
